Writing for the television or movies is very different when compared to radio writing. In the television and movie script writing one relies more heavily on the quality of the visual component generally left to a director and his/her team. In radio, there is no place for the writer to hide.
In addition to writing crisp, relevant and expository dialogue that doesn’t sound stilted or self-serving, and yet moves the story forward at an appropriate pace, we must create realistic “soundscapes” for our audience.
Calling for the right sound effects and music at the right junctures enables the writer to set the various moods throughout the play and paint an audio “picture” for the audience that will lead to a rewarding theatre of the mind experience.
Having said this, please understand that every member of the production team plays a crucial role in creating any fine production – nobody does it alone.
